Schools have to share information about how they help children and young people who need extra support. This is called a SEND  information report.

You can look at this report to learn about the help the school gives to children and young people with special needs. It should be easy to find on the school website and written in simple, clear words.  You should be able to download it for free, and if you ask, the school must give you a paper copy.

You could stop at the above or also include the info below about the specific contents.

The SEND information report should include:

  • The name and contact details of the SENDCo (the person in charge of special support).
  • The different types of special needs and the help the school gives for each one.
  • How the school teaches children and young people with special needs and any special training teachers have had.
  • How the school finds and checks children and young people who might need special help.
  • How the school checks if the support for children and young people with special needs is working well.
  • How the school talks to children and young people and their parents about the support, and how they can be part of checking and planning it.
  • How the school helps children and young people with special needs take part in activities that other students do.
  • How the school helps children and young people with their feelings and how they get along with others.
  • Information about outside services the school might work with to help children and young people.
  • Information about help for parents of children and young people with special needs.
  • How the school handles complaints from parents if they are not happy with the support their child and young person is getting.
